Passive Tiny House
Passive tiny house on Damariscotta Lake blends with the trees. This custom tiny house features expansive south facing glass with cathedral height space for natural light and passive heating. This feature doubles to open up views to the lake. Long expansive operable dormers create a natural cooling stack effect. The red oak flooring, stair treads and railing were cut and milled on site which was an important element for the owners to re-use site materials as much as possible with least site disturbance.
The building sits hovering the site on posts and pre-cast footings to minimize site disturbance while allowing the native ferns to grow surrounding the cottage for a truly natural site. Custom Marvin windows and custom color complement the site’s natural spruce and beach tree grove.
A single heat pump provides enough heat to create a comfortable living space due to compact space planning and open loft concept and insulation.
Furnishings and cabinetry are all made from recycled materials. Ceilings are finished with recycled barn wood, while bathroom tiles/counters are all made from recycled content. Interior accent walls feature sliced logs cut on site.
Boulders pulled from the footing excavation create a natural fire pit truly creating a green/passive tiny cottage that complements the natural site’s beauty to be used year round.
