"Phelps Architects are a high end, very professional group with good design taste for the Maine coastal look."

They do a great job mixing new with the old in design, and are up to date on trends and today’s popular conveniences for the home.

I had a wonderful experience working with Michelle. She understands what people want, is open to changes along the way, and has good taste in design and what will look nice, as well as requiring quality construction and materials from builders. I also felt much better knowing they hire outside engineers to review their designs a couple different times to ensure strength of construction.

"We are thrilled with our waterfront year round woodsy cottage."

Michelle helped us envision a Maine coastal style cottage to replace our old seasonal family structure. We wanted an updated cottage with some New England features such as bead board, porthole window, natural wood and vaulted ceiling. She included a stone fireplace, built-in shelves and an attractive entry with a functional mudroom. Michelle always considered the existing site on the water and how the light would affect the interior of the house. She was always there every step of the way for us, including working and checking with the builder and sub-contractors. Her expertise in architecture, as well as design, always served us well. When asked, she had suggestions for showrooms and websites for us to peruse for lighting, bath fixtures, cabinetry pulls, etc.

"Michelle’s strongest points are that she listens, she has good ideas, and she understands how people live in houses."

I think that Michelle’s strongest points are that she listens, she has good ideas, and she understands how people live in houses. She very much incorporated our preferences into the design. And, when the cost estimates went up (the result of her giving us everything we wanted), she worked with us to figure out how to get them back under control while retaining the elements that were most important to us. The result is a beautiful house that immediately felt like home. I asked my husband yesterday if there was anything that he felt just didn’t work out right; neither of us could think of anything. And, it’s rare for a day to go by when one of us doesn’t comment “I love this room” or “I love this house.”
